NLSIU’s Citizenship and Immigration Law Clinic is inviting applications for the position of Paralegal Assistant. The role focuses on facilitating legal aid activities and client engagement, particularly within the detention system, and acting as a liaison between the Clinic’s lawyers and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and conduct monthly legal-aid camps at the Matia Detention Centre, Assam.
- Coordinate with the Assam Legal Services Authority and Goalpara District Legal Services Authority.
- Collect relevant information from detainees to identify individuals requiring legal representation.
- Assist in initiating legal cases based on information gathered during legal-aid camps.
- Support translation of documents.
- Assist in training programmes for lawyers and paralegals.
Eligibility:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Law or Social Work, or significant paralegal experience.
- Fluency in Assamese, both written and spoken.
- Experience working with Legal Services Authorities (DLSA/SLSA) is desirable.
Duration: One year, extendable based on performance.
